Chiang Mai – Day 15

Today was move day. It was a little hard saying goodbye to the other place that I was staying at. I had a feeling that the new location wasn’t going to be as glorious, one because it didn’t have a view, and the other it was going to be further away from the mall I’m so accustomed to going. But eventually, I had to go.

I made a quick breakfast with the rest of the groceries I had in the refrigerator. I cleaned up the rest of my stuff and packed my bags. The goal was to get out of there before 11 am because the landlord was going to come by and clean up. I finished packing and was finishing up the last of the fruit in the refrigerator when all of a sudden I hear a knock on the door. The landlord decided to come earlier, so I rushed my stuff together, chatted with him a bit, and then headed out.

I went over to a coffee shop right next to the old place (cry…). The new Airbnb location wasn’t going to be ready until 1 pm. I stayed at the shop until about 12:50 pm and then headed over. I had to cross the treacherous road to get to the other side with my bags and walk about .4 miles to get to the new place. It wasn’t as far as I had thought.

The crossing to get to the other side without any pedestrian walkways.

When I got there, the landlord met me and brought me up to the place. The area was not as nice as the other place, but it felt more immersive into the culture. The good thing about this place is there is a decent gym here. I’ve been doing in-room calisthenics for the most part so it’ll be nice changing it up a bit.

Living room/Kitchen Area
Gotta love having a portable work set up. It feels like working at home.
Bedroom. View is of another apartment complex. Not as nice. This place feels more like a den, but it’s cozy.
The great thing about this place is the washer inside the house. The other place had an offsite washer and dryer location.

Once I got settled in, I did a little bit of work. I was working on another small business concept with two friends, but considering how busy I was, there was no way I could build it. I pulled out and did all the transfers of intellectual property and access to all our accounts. Super frustrating making all the transfers because of how Google works but eventually I got it all done. Feels good having one extra load off my mind. I realize you can only do 1 or 2 things well. I stretched myself too thin. I’ve been pulling back on responsibilities the last couple of months to focus on Minidesk.

After that, I headed out to get some food and also to explore the area. It turns out; this place is close to the salad concept restaurant where I stock up on food for the week. The food here is much cheaper, so I just buy meals and bring them back to the house instead of always buying groceries and cooking myself. Super convenient and great way to add variety to my diet.

About 2-3 days worth of food. This place is my favorite place to get healthy food. They have great salads, breakfast omelets, and other things. Each salad is about 4 dollars and it’s probably big enough for two meals each, so about 2 dollars per meal, and it’s pretty high-quality ingredients.

When I did my walk to buy food, I found a ton of different places that I didn’t even know existed. There is a main road where the MAYA mall is called Nimman Road (Nimmanheman) that is popular here. It has a ton of restaurants, shops, bars, food trucks, you name it. It’s a great place to go for foreigners because most shop owners are familiar with dealing with internationals. What I didn’t know, is that there are shops lined all throughout the inner workings of the streets near Nimman. I found a ton of different really interesting shops and restaurants. I’ll probably check out. This is a definite plus staying at a new location. Even though it’s not very far away, it feels like I’m in a completely different area. I feel two weeks is a good time to stay at a location. If it’s not great, then it’s only two weeks, and you can find another place.

This is part of Nimman Road.
Another shot of Nimman Road.
…and another.
A lively restaurant on one of the small streets as I was walking back. You can’t tell in the picture, but the place was poppin!
The gutter that divides the streets. You can see the white circular building which was the place I stayed at previously. I’m taking the photo relatively close to my new place. It’s a couple of blocks further but not far from the old place.

The walk back to my new place compared to the old is DEFINITELY a lot sketchier, but you don’t feel endangered. It’s darker and more in the rural part of town, but it all feels safe. Once I got back, I watched some of the Exodus videos from the Bible Project. I’m aiming to watch all the videos on the entire old and new testament.

After the videos, I went over my second course in the SEO specialization I’m taking. You can read that here if you’d like. Then I went over some courses on futures contracts to get a better understanding of how the markets work for Minidesk. You can see my notes here. Now I’m finishing up this post and I’m going to go to sleep at a decent hour today. It’s 11:51 pm. Hopefully, I’ll be able to sleep around 12:30 pm. I haven’t been getting the best sleep this past couple of days. Not sure why.

That’s it for today! On to day 16 of being in Chiang Mai.
