Phuket – Day 2

One day late writing this post because I was drained from yesterday and I wanted to catch up on sleep.

We had a full day. It was our James Bond Island tour. We had breakfast at the main restaurant on the resort before we were picked up and driven to the meetup spot to board the boat. The food was delicious and it was all you can eat. We didn’t have much time so we ate quickly and then were driven to the meetup spot. We left at 8:00 am and got to the location at 8:30 am. When we got there we ended up waiting 2 hours before we headed out. Terrible timing on their part.

We finally boarded. We thought we were going on the speed boat but ended up boarding a larger boat that could fit around 50 people. It was slow but it didn’t sway much so no one got seasick. About an hour into the boat ride we finally made it to our first location. We went in a kayak rowed by a crew member and we went into a cave and revealed an open area of walled rocks and a basin of water. It was really cool going through the cave. It was a tight squeeze getting through but getting to the other side was worth it.

We visited another cave and then went to the James Bond island which is called that because of the movie James Bond, “The Man With the Golden Gun” was filmed there. It was interesting, not spectacular. We walked around and took some pictures and then waited to head to our last location where we swam for about 30 minutes. The boat we had was a double-decker and we were able to dive from the upper deck.  It was the highlight of the tour for me. I also almost swam to the beach which was pretty far out. I wanted to test if I could swim that far in open water. Unfortunately, I went half way and decided to go back. I was pretty confident I could have gotten there but getting back was what I was worried about. I feel a lot more confident in the water and I feel like a stronger swimmer now.

The swim was a great way to end the tour. However, the tour guides ruined the ending. As we were heading back, the tour guide had a “special surprise” for everyone. He had three guys dress as ladyboys and danced up on people like it was a strip club. It was disgusting and uncalled for. There were two Indian families with young kids and they were appalled. These three guys were wearing makeup and women’s clothes literally grinding up on people like it was a strip club. I was furious.

One of the ladyboys tried dancing up on an Indian man’s wife and the guy was pissed. He told the guy he could not do that and made him stop. They tried doing it to me and I shoved them away. They clearly understood I was pissed and having none of it. It was clear that half of the tour people were not okay with it. The main host apologized for everything because he could tell people angry. That killed the tour. It was completely unacceptable. If my kids were exposed to that I’d be even more angry. I was pissed for the families that had their young kids exposed to that kind of behavior.

The rest of the ride back was awkward. We were still 30 minutes out before getting to land. We got back to shore and we left as quickly as possible. We were uncomfortable sitting for so long and wanted to shower. Our driver brought us back to the hotel. We showered and went to get some dinner at another restaurant on the resort called The Sandbox. Food was great and we capped it off with a drink. We chilled out and watched another episode of Gentlemen’s Dignity. We knocked out early. We were exhausted.

This was our last night in Phuket. Our flight to Ho Chi Minh City takes off at 4:50 pm so we want to be at the airport by 2:00 pm. We wish we had another day in Phuket. We would have reduced a day in Chiang Mai and added one to Phuket. The resort was amazing. We didn’t get to enjoy it as much as we would have liked but it was still a great time. I’m looking forward to HCMC!
