I can’t say how much I’m enjoying this new location compared to the last one. The previous one was perfect for what I needed at the time, but this new location feels fantastic. I have this incredible view that I try to take advantage of every moment I have. I’ll only be here for another ten days, and I know it’s going to go by so quick. My mom and sister will be flying in on the 28th, and then we’ll be heading out to Krabi on the 29th. The place we have there is just sick! We got a great deal on it. Hopefully, it’s everything we imagine it to be.
The Krabi trip will be a nice break from the city and working alone. We’ll be there for six days then I’ll be heading to Singapore for three days later to Canggu, Bali.
My spirits were lifted after a couple of hard days this past week. The news about Upenn hit hard, and it slowly lingered but got better each day. I think the biggest thing about it was messing up all my plans, but I really see that it’s all good. God’s ways are way better, and I have to trust in that. I happen to watch a video today that hit the nail on the head. Pretty timely. Video here
Today was an excellent working day. Now that I’m closer to the city and many things are within walking distance, I worked out of a Tom & Toms that’s right across the street from my condo. The internet in Bangkok is spot on which is always a huge component of working in other countries. I stayed there most of the day working on learning software development. I feel like I made a huge jump today in learning. It’s like having a plateau for a while and then all of a sudden everything clicks and makes sense. The digital world doesn’t seem to be “magic” anymore working in a black box. I’m starting to see how things are pieced together.
I worked there until 7 pm and then headed over to the plaza down the street to get some food. Most of the restaurants here are pretty expensive. They are on par with the U.S. I splurged a bit just because of convenience, but I’ll be buying more groceries and making more food at home. It’ll be a nice change from all the delivery food I’ve been getting. I feel healthier already. Speaking of which, I’ve gone back to my traditional breakfast in the morning, and it’s a glorious thing. I love the exotic fruits in Asia. I have access to affordable dragon fruit, yellow watermelon, mango, etc. One of the greatest things about this place.
After dinner, I headed back with the intention of working out but it got too late. I worked on some wireframing for a website project I want to start coding out, and I got sucked into the work. Coding is pretty exciting once you start understanding how everything pieces together. The hardest part I think is seeing all the moving pieces and seeing holistically how everything fits. Most sites that teach coding focus on teaching the code itself but not HOW everything works together. That’s frustrating for people like me because we have to see how things fit together to understand why we even need to learn certain things in the first place. I’m excited to continue learning and starting to build out a project I have in mind.
Even though I missed the gym, I still cranked out 270 pushups, and 40 inverted sit ups. There isn’t an excuse for not getting some physical exercise in even if you don’t have a gym.
Okay, time to sleep!
