We just finished our last full day in Hong Kong. We’ll check out tomorrow at 4 pm tomorrow for our flight at 7:40 pm. The airport is less than a mile away so we won’t need to rush getting over there. We get to fly business class so it’s going to be a great flight back that I’m actually looking forward to.
We started off the morning with breakfast at the executive lounge. This Marriott isn’t anything close to the other hotels we’ve stayed at, but Jason used his points to book this place for free so I’m not complaining. We then headed down to the lobby to pull out more HKD at the atm. The shuttle was still another 30 minutes away so we went hung out for a bit and then hopped onto the shuttle to take us over to the closest MRT station at Tung Chung.
The Tung Chung station has a shopping Outlet so we went around to see what they had. Jason was looking for presents for his family and girlfriend while I was open to buy stuff but with no particular agenda. If anything, I wanted to find another black hat since the one I bought from H&M starting falling apart.
The Outlet didn’t have much so we left and headed towards the K11 mall, but made a pit stop to get some dim sum at a highly rated restaurant called One Dim Sum. We exited Princess Edward station and walked over to One Dim Sum. When we got there, we saw a massive line. The wait was about an hour. With the lengthy reviews and long line, we had to try it no matter the wait.
We got a ticket and they had us preorder our food so that it would be ready when we sat down. We didn’t know how much food to order so we picked out what we thought would be enough but then the guy told us we had to order everything we wanted now because you can’t order more when you sit down. We felt we ordered enough but we weren’t sure so we doubled up on some dishes.
What a terrible idea. When we finally sat down and saw the portions on the other tables I knew we were in for it. When the food started showing up it didn’t stop. Our table was jam-packed and the food kept coming. It was so much food that everyone in the restaurant started looking at us. The older gentlemen behind Jason even turned around to look at how much food we ordered and we both made eye contact and laughed over the absurd amount of food we got. We ended up with three boxes of leftovers and were stuffed to the brim.
The food was good. It wasn’t spectacular since I’ve had good dim sum in LA but it was worth the wait. We left and headed to the K11 mall. Before going in, the map we saw recommended a
It’s said that this mall has over 260+ locations and combines shopping with art. It was definitely a unique mall and it did have a lot of stores. The outside and inside used artistic designs and varied elements to give it a trendy art vibe to it. Even the shops were different and very unique. I haven’t seen some of the stores anywhere else.
We were able to find some cool stuff. I ended up shopping more than I expected. During my entire time in South East Asia, I didn’t buy much. In total, I bought about 5 tank tops in Thailand ($3 each), 3 stretch t-shirts at H&M ($21) , 1 H&M hat ($15), some socks, 2 shorts ($7), and some boxers since I didn’t bring much clothes with me. I only brought my travel luggage and my backpack for 4 months traveling so I needed some items on the trip.
I ended up buying a dope back pack that folds into a small bag from Victorinox, a foldable fanny pack, a Northface black hat, an Adidas black sweater, two pairs of Adidas white shoes, a credit card sized portable battery, and a travel bag for shoes. I bought most of the items because I thought the concepts would be great for StationGeek.
We shopped for a couple hours, had some coffee, and snacks at the K11 mall then headed back to the Tung Jung Station Outlet at 7 pm to finish up some more shopping. Our MRT would expire by 7:50 pm so we made sure to get back in time. We were still satiated from our heavy lunch but when we finished shopping, there was a revolving sushi joint that we’ve seen around Hong Kong so we gave it a go.
The sushi was really good for the price. It reminded me of the revolving sushi spot at the Atre 2 Mall at the Meguro station exit in Tokyo. It wasn’t as good as Japan but it’s a solid sushi place. We ate and then barely made it to the Shuttle that takes us back to the Marriott.
We got back to the hotel, checked out our purchases, and packed up for tomorrow. We forgot to the check out the fanciest Mcdonalds in Hong Kong today so we plan to do that tomorrow and Jason still needs to do some Christmas shopping for his folks and gf so we’ll head to another mall tomorrow.
Last day and then off to Los Angeles! It’s going to be great being back in America and driving a car again. I’ve grown a greater appreciation for the U.S. because of this trip. It’s easy to complain about the things we do wrong as a country, but we forget about the things we’ve done right. I’m proud to be an American and thankful for the country we have.
