Last day in Bali. The Internet has been spotty on my phone and wifi has been non-existent at most cafes. I guess it’s helped me get away from work for a bit, but it’s been frustrating. I’m glad I’ll have great internet again when I get back into Bangkok.
Since today is my last day, I didn’t work too much. I went for breakfast at Crate cafe. It’s like the hipster cafe of all hipster cafes but for a good reason. They have THE BEST avocado toast with bacon. I’m sad that I found this place so late. Since they get so busy, they have a side lounge area for guest overflow. I had my avocado toast while listening to some good worship music. I ended up talking to a local who is a tattoo artist because he saw me drawing some designs for station geek. His artwork was fantastic and got me contemplating getting one. It’s been an afterthought for a while, but I’m not sure I’m ready to pull the trigger. The idea of having something so permanent is a bit intimidating.
We had a good chat and then I went over to the side lounge area and had another iced americano while planning my next steps as I head to Bangkok. I feel I’ve made the necessary progress at Network & Market where I think the workload is dropping and I’ll be able to focus on Minidesk. I’ve also been making some progress on ideas with Stationgeek. I shot my design concepts and business to my brother who usually is very skeptical about most business ideas, but he felt there was a compelling business. I plan to take it on as a side project as my primary becomes Minidesk.
After breakfast, I headed back to the villa and worked on creating another ad for Network and Market. After finishing, I went to get late lunch/early dinner at the Common. The food was delicious as always, but several flies kept flying around my food as I ate. I wasn’t able to enjoy it longer because of the flies, but I wanted to catch another sunset at the beach to cap the night. I went to Canggu Beach and had the best view of the sunset. I enjoyed the setting sun and crashing waves for a bit and then grabbed a double whiskey to celebrate the two weeks in Bali.
I headed home and went for a night swim one last time. The water previous time was so perfect that I needed to take advantage of it one more time. I ended up talking to Alua, the one who manages the villa, for a couple of hours. Good chat. I finished up my swim, showered, and tried to get some food at the supermarket since it was late already and most restaurants closed. Unfortunately, the supermarket was closed as well. No dinner tonight but probably for the better. The late lunch meal was massive already.
I’m now packed up and ready to go. I have a taxi coming at 6:30 am to drop me off at the airport. My flight takes off at 11am-ish, so I’ll be early since the ride over is only an hour, but I’ve learned it’s better to be early and chill out at the airport than scramble especially if I’m not familiar with an airport and their procedures.
I enjoyed my stay in Bali. It grew on me more and more but it’s not my ideal place for remote work. The culture is much more laid back, and the internet connection is spotty. I will miss the quick rides on the Moto, the healthy food options, the tasty fruit, and the beach sunsets. I’d come back but not with the intent of working.
Off to Bangkok part 2.
