We got settled into Krabi yesterday, and today we explored Ko Lanta to see what we were working with. We were fortunate that the owner of the Airbnb connected us with his property manager and she has been great in showing us around and getting us situated. We first went to get a massage for an hour and a half. My massage was pretty terrible. It felt like a child that didn’t know what they were doing gave me a massage; weak and uncoordinated. My sister’s was good and my mom’s not so great.
After massages, we rented a car for the week that we are here. I was a little hesitant about it because it’s right-hand drive and you drive on the opposite side of the road. It gets a little confusing if you’re not familiar with it. However, Ko Lanta is small, and there is only one main road that connects the entire island. There wasn’t much to worry about, and I got comfortable quickly.
After picking up the car, we went to get some lunch, and it was phenomenal.
Once we finished lunch, we headed over to the old town of Ko Lanta. It’s a small area that has a few shops. We’ve come to realize that this island isn’t anything compared to Chiang Mai or Bangkok. Initially, I was trying to stay positive about this trip, but honestly, Ko Lanta isn’t a place to marvel. I’ve been disappointed. Even the villa that we are staying has some issues. A/C doesn’t work in the master bedroom and there is a major bug issue here. I’m assuming it’s the case for all houses because it’s like living in a jungle here.
Hopefully, tomorrow will be better. We booked a trip to an island where we’ll snorkel and have some lunch.
After checking out old town, we tried driving back to our place but couldn’t find it, and we were having issues contacting the property manager and the owner of the place. Instead of going back, we just went to the north part of Ko Lanta and grabbed some groceries and street food. We checked out the area, and it was probably the liveliest part of Ko Lanta but still underwhelming. We didn’t stay long and drove back to the place. I winged it and luckily was able to find out place.
Being back was nice. I got a quick makeshift work out in before calling it a night. We’ll be heading out to the speedboat that will take us to the island tomorrow morning. I hope tomorrow I’ll be able to give some positive feedback on the trip.
We tried shortening our time in Ko Lanta and getting a place in Krabi’s main area, but Airbnb’s system wouldn’t let us get a refund for the other days. We’ll skip our last day here and head up early on Saturday morning and stay there because we take off from the airport at 6:30 am.
