I got out today and spent the majority of it at the Asiatique River Walk across the river from my place. It was a close ride over and cost only 3 dollars. I got there before it started getting busy. Most of the stores start opening at 4 pm. The Asiatique River Walk is a popular destination for tourists all over the world. After 4 pm, it began to get busy.
I ended up getting glasses today. My other pair broke, and in Thailand, they do the eye inspection on the spot and have your glasses ready in 20 minutes. It’s pretty incredible. After getting my glasses, I walked around the entire place to get familiar with it. It’s a fun place if you’re there to buy stuff or eat. I’m not a big souvenir guy, so buying stuff wasn’t exciting. I did need a t-shirt though since I packed pretty minimally. I have a carry on suitcase and a backpack for the four months I’m traveling out here, and the majority of it is computer related equipment. I found a t-shirt for 4 dollars which was nice.
I ended up eating and walking around a lot. It was pretty tiring. It also started raining for an hour or so. After the rain stopped, I went on the Ferris wheel to get a view of the entire city. It was nice, but the rain splattered the windows with raindrops blurring my 360 views of the city. After the Ferris wheel, I grabbed a quit bite to eat again and had a glass of whiskey.
I decided to call it a night. It was about 9:30 pm, but as I was walking over to the boat that takes you to the opposite side of the river, there was a band playing some great music, so I stopped and listened for about five songs and just people watched. Eventually, I head off to the boat, but I didn’t quite know where the ship would take us on the other side. It turns out that the boat on got on takes you to another port area where other boats take you to your specific location.
I chose the wrong one because the name of the destination for a specific boat was very similar to mine. I was a little annoyed because it took me further, not closer, from where I wanted to go. But, it turns out there was a supermarket there! It made my day! I picked up fruit, veggies, and my typical breakfast in the morning. Sometimes, things that seem to go wrong have a silver lining in them.
I headed home and just relaxed for the rest of the night. Oh, my sister and mom are coming to Thailand at the end of the mom. We’re going to head to Krabi. It’ll be nice to hang out with them while I’m here. After that, I’ll be heading over to Singapore and then Bali for my last work leg of the trip.
I took a ton of photos, so I’ll upload them below.
