Chiang Mai – Day 16

Today was a bit of a rest day for me. These days have been going by so fast. Today went by in a blink of an eye and I barely even remember what I did. I worked on Milliardco quite a bit today. It’s been such a good idea to create it. It’s been helpful to aggregate all my learning and notes into one place. It’s motivating to see the progress I’m making. It also helps to be able to look at the areas of focus all in one place. It allows me to be more intentional about what I need to learn. It’s also great being able to see “above the trees” so to speak. It’s very easy to become very myopic and study the detail before seeing the whole picture.

When I look at marketing, the sections I’ve broken it down to, make it a much more digestible discipline because I know the major parts of it. It now becomes easier to see what I need to work on and what I’ve already worked on. It’s easy to forget what you’ve learned as well. By tracking and having notes, you see it all come together.

I worked on Milliardco. and then watched the Leviticus videos from the Bible Project. I like the fact that the Bible Project sees things and articulates things from a high-level view. Many times, we can easily read the bible and get stuck into the details that we never see the entire story. I believe that is true for many things as well. In educational disciplines, my philosophy, which is similar to Charlie Munger’s, is to understand the major thoughts of the discipline before you go into the minutiae of formulas, extra theories, etc. What are the foundational building builds of the discipline? Majority of everything else builds upon those foundations in detail. See the bigger first, then dive into the details.

My lower back has been killing me as of late. It’s probably too much sitting and not enough stretching and exercise. I decided to get a massage today at a place near my new location. I’m a huge fan of massages, and the place I found is highly rated on Tripadvisor called Choeng Doi Massage. For a two hour massage, it was about 800 Bhat, 1000 Bhat with tip; equivalent to about 33 dollars (Pretty darn cheap for what you get… In the states, that’s about a $120-$150 massage). Normally I go for the 1.5 hr massage without all the frills, but I wanted to see how good this place was…

They clean your feet before you start the massage.

The verdict, a little disappointed. The masseuse wasn’t very strong nor did she focus on my back. She did the traditional Thai massage, then oil massage, and then some Thai herbal compress thing. It was a little too much for me. I normally just like strong massages where they know what muscles to focus on. I’d come back, but I’m going to try the regular massage.

After the massage, there was a teppanyaki place I wanted to try. Most of the items were 10Bhat (30 cents). It was on my way back from the massage place which wasn’t too far away. The food was okay. The other places I’ve gone to were much better, but this place did have a delicious roasted eggplant with chili pepper.

It was pretty empty when I got there, but it started filling up a little later.
Grilling up the food.

After dinner, I headed back and watched some videos on futures and forward contracts. Then decided to watch a movie and finish up the night. Watched a Thai movie… surprisingly pretty good. Now just finishing up this post, showering, and calling it a night. Tomorrow I think I’ll visit the old city which is a famous part of Chiangmai. I’ll need to take a Grab (like Uber) to get there. It’s about 2 miles away. I’ve walked to the edge of it before, but I haven’t explored inside it.

A popular bar/restaurant in Chiang Mai. It’s on the way back to my place.

That’s it for now!
