Chiang Mai – Day 13

Day 13! I have two more days before I move to another Airbnb in Chiang Mai. It’s really close to where I’m currently living. I’m bummed that I’ll be leaving. This place has been such an impressive set up for work. I have a great workstation set up, and I have this amazing view that I get to see every day. I want a place with an incredible outlook when I eventually go back to the U.S.  Waking up to a mixture of greenery and city is bar none what of the most relaxing and inspiring things. It’s currently 12:44 am as I write this. I can hear the chirping of crickets, the low lull of a creek, and the buzzing of electricity all around me. Something about that and having an incredible view is mesmerizing and relaxing.

My workstation
This place is an open studio with large glass doors. Amazing. I keep the curtains pulled back at night and I don’t set my alarm. I let the sunrise do the trick.
The view at night. Unfortunately, you can’t see the greens below and much of the city lights, but it is stunning.

I was able to get to sleep a little earlier than the other nights, at 1 am but still not where I want. It’s already 1 am so doesn’t look like I’ll be going to sleep any sooner today. I did my same routine in the morning. Made some breakfast, did a couple of hundred pushups (The gym is terrible here), squats, and lunges. I chatted with a couple of people on Facebook. Then I started work.

Same breakfast and the Word to start the day.

I stayed in most of the day. We had rain showers intermittently so it was hard to gauge if I would get caught in the rain if I went out. Didn’t matter since most of the time I was planning to get quite a bit done today. For work, I added an RSS feed feature in my email autoresponder so that I can have all my blogs sent to readers weekly without having to do anything. I made some tweaks to MilliardCo and some major changes to Network & Market’s funnel.

I completely tweaked the sales funnel and made two products free that I initially was charging for. I realized I need to provide as much valuable free content. I noticed that on Facebook, too many of the paid ads were super spammy and getting people to buy something without delivering value. But sites like DigitalMarketer, which does millions in revenue a year, focused on just providing free value.

I also switched services from Aweber over to Mailchimp. Aweber was having a ton of issues so I finally had it with it. MailChimp has been awesome. Tons of features, much more robust, and easy to use. It did take me some time to learn how to use MailChimp thought, but it’s much more scalable in the long run compared to Aweber.

I got hungry around 3 pm today, and I didn’t want to go too far, so I was a little adventurous and went to this spot literally in front of my condo. I’ve been skeptical of the place because it looked like a bit of shack. I’ve walked past it a couple of times, and it seemed sketchy, but I was desperate. It turned out it wasn’t so bad. It’s a place where locals will dine at. I’ve been a little more accustomed to the restaurants at the mall. Taking a chance was good though. It got me to be more open to trying other places.

Eggs noodles with some bbq pork. Pretty tasty.

After a quick lunch, I went back to work. I finished around 9 pm. I got hungry again, and I was planning to make a run to the salad restaurant I went to before to order enough food for the next day, but it got too late. Instead, I went across the street because I noticed some restaurants that I haven’t checked out yet. The food didn’t look too appealing though, and it was a bit intimidating since it looked like a local joint and not as approachable. I decided to do a little exploring, and since I had crossed the street (Haven’t done this yet since it’s a little hard to get over), I figured I’d walk down the street that I hadn’t check out yet. Lo and behold this place was a gold mine! As I kept walking, I saw more and more restaurants and places I didn’t know existed. The street honestly looked barren, but it turns out this place is a hot spot for college kids.

The death crossing. There is a giant gutter that divides the street, and there is no pedestrian walkway to get across (Actually there are almost no crosswalks even on major roads in Thailand. You have to cross with cars having the right of way cautiously.) Those are the restaurants I checked out.

As I quickly strolled down the streets, every few steps I’d pass a food truck vendor lining the streets with food I’ve never seen before. It all looked delicious, and I wish my stomach were 10x as big at this moment. I kept walking to survey the entire place because it seemed to go on for blocks. I finally get to the end of what seemed like a mini-marathon, I reach the holy grail of food. There was a night market filled with shops and food! It was like a giant party, and I just found out about it.

Not sure what this building was but it looked cool.
The night market with tons of shops
Just one of the food areas. It seems like I got there right when everyone started shutting down.

I’m checking out the place tomorrow. I think my next Airbnb location is close to this place. It turns out it’s surrounded by Universities. This is where all the hip college kids go. All of a sudden feel old. I ended up walking around the place just to see what was available. Most of the food places were closed though. I left to find food because I was starving at this point.

I ended up going to another dinky food cart that looked sketchy, but the owner of the Airbnb place said most food carts were legit and super cheap. About a $1 for a bowl of noodles. I ended up getting something because everything else seemed closed. Overall, not bad. Tasted like a curry noodle that my pops would make.

After dinner, I headed back, ate some food at my place because I was still starving. The portions tend to be smaller here which is probably a good thing. Then I finished another week’s worth of SEO online classes and finishing up this post. Now I’m ready for a shower and sleep.

It looks like I’m back to 2 am again…maybe tomorrow will be better.
